When you volunteer for Special Olympics New Zealand, you are enabling a child or adult with an intellectual disability the joy of competition, the thrill of achievement, the long-term benefits of physical activity, and a sense of belonging.

Founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the Special Olympics movement has grown from a few hundred athletes to more than 3.7 million athletes in over 170 countries in all regions of the world, providing year-round sports training, athletic competition and other related programs.

Swim meets are governed by World Aquatics rules. Swimming is a very popular sport within NZ and so, we invite you to offer your skills as a technical official.

All positions need to be covered ie, IOT, JOS, Starter, Referee and, we especially welcome trainees in any position.

The 2026 swim meet calendar is as follows –

  1. 3 May – Hibiscus Coast T1 (1 day event) - Northern Arena Aquatics Centre
  2. 28th June - Waikato T1 - Huntly
  3. 12 July – Whangarei T1 - Whangarei Aquatics Centre
  4. 19 July – Auckland T1  – Diocesan School for Girls
  5. 13 September – Howick-Pakuranga T1 – Lloyd Elsmore Aquatic Centre
  6. 19 October – Te Awamutu T1 – Livingstone Aquatics Centre

If you are available, your services will be greatly appreciated, not only by the hosting Clubs but also for the athletes.

More details will be available nearer to the time of each meet.
